A Beginner’s Guide to App Marketing

There’s an app for everything these days. If you are a heavy user, you probably have numerous apps installed on your smartphone. Each app in your phone serves a purpose, giving you a good reason to use when required. Only thing is, there are too many apps that share similar features and functionality, so you need to come up with ingenious ways to make your app stand out.

At present, there are more than 4 million apps in Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store combined, and these numbers are increasing at a huge rate. To stand out in this overflowing marketplace, your app needs powerful marketing and promotion. Here’s a quick guide on the many ways you can market your newly launched mobile app.

Optimise your app for app stores

Even before you begin marketing your app, you need to be 100 percent sure it is prepped and ready for displaying on a selected app store. Little things like the app icon, software updates, and app descriptions play a big role in your app’s awareness and life cycle in a store. Keep a cheat sheet for app store optimisation next to you throughout the development and marketing of your app.

Create a Landing Page

A lot of apps launching today are really just an extension of a product or service that already has a strong presence on the web. If you’re going the reverse way, you still need some sort of website presence that can be used as a promotive platform. The best option is a landing page, which can be used to promote your app organically. Let’s say you’re writing an informative blog article that centres around your app-based product or people search for the product you offer on Google; if the first point of communication is a landing page, there’s a big chance that searchers get converted into a user of your app.

Make the most you can out of the freedom of expression offered on the landing page. You can provide detailed information about your product and even create a mock version of your app to give users a taste of what to expect.

Human, a fitness initiative, launched as an app to inspire people of all ages to get active for a minimum of 30 minutes every day. To boost awareness for the app, a landing page was created that explained in detail the various features and benefits of using the app. The landing page included app screenshots, a simulator that showed real-time statistics of the app’s usage and various testimonials. Installs of Human hit the 1 million mark and the app was also rated amongst the best of 2014

Utilise paid promotions – App install ads

Advertising is the fastest way to create awareness about a product and the same can be said for your app. There are a number of third party services that enable you to create and promote app install ads, so keep your finances in check and work out the best possible deals for advertising your app.

Facebook and Google’s app install campaigns are the best to start with. Here are the steps:

  • Create a campaign with relevant targets such as location, audience and budget
  • Design ad copy creatives with a Unique Selling Proposition
  • For Google search, choose relevant keywords that the Target Audience would normally search for
  • Launch the campaign
  • Measure the results with important metrics and optimise accordingly

Get social

If shelling out money for advertising isn’t a good option for you, try the alternative route with social media promotions. Blogging, hashtagging, and page posts are some of the many techniques you can utilise on social media. Audience engagement helps build trust and value for your app and works wonders in the long run, provided you have patience and perseverance when using this marketing method.

Request for app ratings and reviews

One of the quickest ways to increase app installs is to request current users to write reviews and rate your app. App Store algorithms calculate app popularity through user reviews and number of downloads, which ultimately push your app to the Top Charts. You can implement the review and rating feature in your app via a number of unique ways; asking for reviews after multiple usages of the app or providing additional app features after a review or rating is done.

Install Mobile App Tracking

Just like Google’s numerous tools that help keep track of a website’s performance or the number of views and clicks on an ad, Mobile App Tracking tools help you track the number of times your app installed. Even when you promote your app through paid advertising, you can use app tracker tools to see from which method of promotion your app is benefiting most. Doing so helps in managing your ad expenses as well as gives you some pointers on what needs to change to enhance your app’s user experience.

How digital marketing is evolving in tier 2 and tier 3 cities of India

Be it a blog, an e-mailer or even posting a simple creative online, a business reaps all the benefits of digital marketing. While the world is rapidly shifting from analogue to digital, is it the same case even in Tier II and Tier III cities in India? One might still be doubtful on how a business in Bihar, or in a small town like Tiruchengode might make use of the digital medium but Social Beat begs to differ.

With more than 3,133 cities that fall under the tier II and tier III category, comprising of almost 31.16% of India’s total population, one cannot simply avoid taking them into consideration while discussing advertising and marketing online. According to a report by one of world’s leading media investment management group, 2016 and early 2017 was supposed to see a 51% increase in digital marketing in Tier II and Tier III cities. We are also seeing a lot of traction with digital content in regional Indian languages.

How to make digital marketing for Tier II and Tier III cities possible?

With internet access and as well as buying power of smart phones, thanks to the initiatives of the Government and some of India’s biggest internet companies, business in these cities now have a larger playground. Since almost 32% of the rural population with the above facilities access the internet on their mobile phones, it is important to generate such content for higher reach and engagement. For example, Facebook now has 160 million users in India, which are spread not just in the top cities but also in smaller towns and even some villages.

Firstly, to leverage digital for smaller websites every digital asset needs to have a great experience on mobile. Be it a website/landing page or a simple single creative – whatever helps in lead generation or branding of a business, it needs to be mobile-friendly. On small screens, the call-to-action button as well as the navigation button needs to be crisp. The copy has to be short, quick and easy to grasp.

Vernacular Ads work the best with respect to lead generation / marketing your brand:

Not just vernacular Ads but vernacular websites work miraculously well for business that either have their base in Tier II and Tier III cities or if they want to target their potential investors in such cities –

While running a Facebook Ad, it is important to understand that the target audience (TA) first needs to be someone in-and-around the city. For example, if it is a real estate project in Trichy selling affordable homes, the TA needs to be someone who when views the Ad will be able to:

A – Relate to the project in terms of location, approachability etc.

B – Compare the price of the project with other such builders

C – Visit the project with ease

D – Take a decision

While the project in the example cited above is in Trichy, the target audience can be just Trichy to start with but will not have a lot of reach unless we explore the little towns and cities in-and-around Trichy itself.

Selecting even the tiniest of towns that we might think will not make a big difference will definitely show results. The potential reach crosses over 730,000 people out of which there is a chance of a bare minimum of 40% to convert into customers.

With regards to the interests and behavior of the target audience, it is always better to keep it a little generic such as focusing on job titles, important IT companies / industries around the city etc. including minor yet vital details like their interest in Business magazines, stocks, shares, etc. If the campaign does well, and if it is for a real estate project in particular (where you think NRIs would like to invest in), go ahead and try a few NRI targeting options too – you never know, it might work wonders!

Looking at utilizing Google Adwords as a platform to advertise in Tier II and Tier III, it is highly recommended for the below reasons:

  1. Less competition in Tier II and Tier III cities which is good for businesses trying to create an identity for themselves / acquire leads.
  2. Better ‘Search Ad’ results due to the high search queries
  3. Good quality leads since the TA is niche and the demand for product is more

The keywords used for these Ads are usually very simple, straight forward terms. For example, for an e-commerce organic food store business, Google AdWords are likely to work better for keywords – ‘healthy food’, ‘organic vegetables’, ‘fresh organic food’ etc. rather than keywords like ‘organic grocery’, ‘organic farm food’ etc.

On Page Factors That Matters The Most For Google In 2017

Effective Keyword ranking is a never-ending mystery and one that every SEO professional thrives on exploring. The technique of scratching through SERP evolves every year with Google’s ever-changing algorithms. Success over this depends on a rinse and repeat the formula that is slow, to begin with but pays off well in the long run. Stay strong on the fundamentals of SEO and focus on the changing scenarios and latest features that fetch you benefits on SERP results. Here is a list of on-page elements that every SEO professional would need to know in 2017 to leverage most out of SERP.

Speed Is a Key Factor for Google

Impact: Very High

Speed is crucial for a website; better loading websites tend to have better engagement. Google also considers speed as a ranking signal and gives fast-loading websites high priority in ranking order. Apart from having a small ranking advantage over slower loading websites, speed also gives your user a pleasing experience that will lead to better conversion probabilities since every single factor is interrelated to each other. Fixing speed on your website is going to help you make your website more SEO friendly.

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP):

Google has introduced an “Accelerated Mobile Pages” feature which enables mobile optimized content load at lightning speeds. Google has not officially declared that AMP as a ranking factor but it clearly has an aesthetic advantage in ranking over pages which are not enabled with AMP.

Long Contents Rank Better

Impact: Very High

The historic ranking data shows that content which is long tends to rank better on Google SERP. At an average, content which ranks on the first page have 1890 words. This correlation may be because long content tends to have greater user engagement and gets a lot of social shares as well. Another fact that supports the statement is that longer content has greater topical relevancy and enables Google to understand the content better. Here is an excellent article on ways to create content that is 10 times better than the rest, what is popularly known as 10x content.

Your Sites security matters for Google

Impact: Moderate

Building trust with Google helps you achieve your goal of ranking higher on SERP.  Enabling SSL certification on your website and shifting to HTTPS makes Google understand that your website is safe for transactions and highly secured. Thus, enabling SSL for your e-commerce site gives a slight advantage in ranking as Google always prefers to give its users a trustable and credible user-experience.

Build Topical Content to Rank Better

Impact: High

The traditional SEO formulae “Content is King” suggests Google still loves to rank good quality content that is very relevant. Creating highly relevant content to your topic is going to give you a slight advantage in rankings. Descriptive longer content with images gives you better user experience. Keeping strong focus on informative, quality content generation is going to give you the upper hand in Google’s rankings.

Schema Helps Google to pull up relevant content for the user

Impact: Moderate

What is Schema?

Schema is a set of semantic codes that you put on your website enabling Google to fetch relevant information related to your content based on the user query.

How is Schema going to help your SEO?

This query has been put into a debate and is yet to arrive with a clear-cut conclusion. But data suggests that websites that have implemented Schema have ranked four positions better than ones without Schema. We cannot conclude that this advantage in ranking is just because of Schema, but there is a correlation found.

Research also suggests that websites that have implemented structured data using Schema have better click-through rates than ones without Schema. It is found that on only one-third of Google’s searches has been using Schema. Snow is going to be the right time to fetch benefits of Schema on your website even if it’s negligible.

Your queries deserve freshness

Impact: Moderate

Google loves fresh content and places trending topics on the top of its search. Your queries need to be fresh and concentrate on News, Blogs and Trending stories. For example, when there something happening in Chennai, the first news appears in 15 minutes, and the first query occurs in an average of 2 seconds. To yield the benefits of a query your SEO needs to focus on building content around trending topics and news. The faster you are, with more relevant, high-quality content, the faster you website gets.

With trends revolving around voice search in the US majorly and spreading across the rest of the world, Google has given preference to content that answers queries on SERP. Thus, building content based on questions that your user may ask also helps you get more website traction.

Heading Tags must have your Keywords:

Impact: Very High

Heading tags are the basics of SEO, and it still has great priority in Googles list of ranking factors. Heading tags is assumed as the key for the content on your webpage, and it should have your target keyword for the particular URL. The heading tags are intended to distinguish headings and subheadings on your content and tags H1 to H6 go in the order of priority. Search Engines normally show H1 to H3 on your content.

Mobile has always been first for Google:

Impact: Very High

Google’s Statistics reveal that 85% of total searches happen on mobile, so having a mobile responsive web design has become inevitable. When you don’t have a mobile responsive web design, you risk losing traffic. Google’s Ranking Algorithm has given high priority to website designs on SERP.

Google’s focus has also been on Accelerated Mobile Pages, which enables web pages to be super-fast on mobile devices. It’s a must for mobile first approach on search; the strategy is going to work for both the present and the near future of searches.

Exact Match Keyword in Title impacts your Ranking

Impact: Moderate

Optimizing the title on the Meta tags has been another factor around the fundamentals of SEO. Focusing your exact match keyword in the title gives you a moderate advantage in rankings on SERP. Thus having a clear cut hierarchy for your website content, and focusing on unique keywords for every relevant landing page, is going to help search algorithms identify the content they need to rank for a particular keyword.

Interlinking Your Content Helps

Impact: Moderate

The concept of interlinking is a strong tool to tell Google which content is critical. It also helps you to bridge the gap between your most authoritative content and your most valuable content. The key for interlinking is content; the more content you have the probability to interlink is more. Interlinking is going to give your user additional relevant information on a site and ultimately going to boost your engagement rate. Google also identifies the hierarchy of your content based on how it is interlinked; making it a ranking factor you need to add to your On Page Checklist for 2017.

The tools and trends of SEO will evolve and get better every year. 2017 holds promise for more refined SEO techniques, so sharpen up your skills and give your website a big ranking boost for the years to come. Women in Leadership – May The Force Be With You

“Some leaders are born women.” –  Geraldine Ferraro

Through the ages, men have always been considered as the breadwinners of the family, while women were reduced to the role of caregiver and homemaker. The generation gap has changed much of this; feminist movements have pushed women to proactively think of better career opportunities and corporations have started become more people focused rather than commodity focused.

In today’s world, as women climb up the corporate ladder, the population of women employees usually decrease. At the highest level, world-over, there are only 3% to 4% who are women. In the business world, women currently hold only 4.6 percent of Fortune 500 CEO positions and the same percentage of Fortune 1000 CEO positions. While organisations all over the world talk about promoting women, they are yet to get into the practice of regularly doing that.

We find it rather puzzling looking at these statistics since here at Social Beat, the statistics are the opposite. We have an amazing team filled with women leaders who are passionate about their work and are helping Social Beat scale up as one of the leading digital marketing agencies in the country.

Social Beat and the women of power

At Social Beat, 60% of our employee base comprises of women, who come from diverse cultural backgrounds, yet share the same passion for exceptional work ethic in scaling up the company to new heights. We nurture the leadership qualities in women and give them the space to grow. Some grow by helping their peers and creating a support system for the organisation to bank on while the others climb up the ladder, taking our company to tremendous heights which we couldn’t have even dreamt of achieving. Whatever be the case, our female employees have always been the driving force to push our organisation to grow – Grow out of our comfort zones, branch out nationwide, and make a mark in the digital world.

There are innumerable ways in which, lady power has helped us on an everyday basis. From working with different teams to managing people from various backgrounds and cultures, the effort put in by our women is not that of playing their designated roles but that of playing a role model for each and everyone of us.

A part of our inspiring female workforce comprises of vibrant and youthful freshers who are fueled by their educational qualifications and are brimful with energy to prove their worth in the corporate world. Their dedication towards work is nothing less than an experienced professional and we often find inspiration in their fresh and crisp ideas. The other half of the workforce comprises of skillful experts who radiate enthusiasm through their thoughts and perspectives. Being an ROI driven digital marketing agency, we are all about results and achievements.

The Iron Ladies

Talking about inspiring women; three of the most dynamic and versatile women at Social Beat lead the creative, social media and BD teams. Their high-spirited and level-headed nature is the glue which binds their respective teams together. We are proud to mention that 40% of the workforce even at the leadership level comprises of women and we trust their maternal instincts to nurture the company’s everlasting growth.

What makes the Women of Social Beat so unique?

The problem is, many companies misunderstand the concept of leadership. Becoming a leader acquires more than just skills that define the very role. There is a quality that matters too; a fundamental identity shift that women seem to master better than men.

Qualities of a good leader:

  • People management skills: People management skills are not something one can earn out of a book, it comes naturally or through life experiences. Women have the natural talent of being people persons; their ability to induce a happy working atmosphere is one to cherish.
  • Great listener: As commanding as leaders should be, they must also have an open door policy;  women are known to be great listeners, always keeping the door open to suggestions made by team members.
  • We before me: A good leader knows that the team matters much more than the individual. A woman’s companionship nature makes her dependent yet equally headstrong when it comes to team effort.
  • Multitasking: It may sound cliche but is the cliche that makes the difference between a good leader and a bad one. Undoubtedly, women will always hold the title as the hardest working, fastest and smartest multitaskers.

The feelings are mutual

Social Beat’s efforts in making a wonderful working atmosphere have been well received by our numerous female employees. A majority of them have cited four common advantages that make working in the company a pleasurable experience.

  • Freedom of expression: Whether it is spilling your heart out or sharing ingenious ideas, Social Beat is always open to all things new, amazing and sometimes flat-out quirky.
  • A plethora of inter-job opportunities: You may be employed here in a particular post but there is no restriction as to what you want to explore. If you enjoy doing something more, we enjoy helping you do that something, better.
  • Awesome work-life balance: “All work and more play, an employee’s life is hip-hip hooray” as quoted by everyone here!
  • Safe work place: Clean, serene and comforting and uber-friendly, Social Beat makes the safety and security of their employees a very high priority.

More women are taking up major roles, which has directly influenced the atmosphere in a workplace. Companies have reported an increased dynamic among their employees with team efforts responsible for improved financial results; women are making a workplace calmer, friendlier and more engaging. Ultimately, having a working atmosphere that is well balanced in gender is important as it helps generate stronger leadership identity development.

Improvising Account Health Score

Does the account health score matter to you?

For all businesses, there are a certain set of goals that needs to be achieved to succeed and ward off the competition. Some of the most important goals of businesses are as follows:

  • Increasing Website Traffic
  • Increasing CTR
  • Increasing CVR
  • Increasing ROI
  • Reducing Waste Spends

Increasing Traffic to Your Website:

If you don’t get any traffic to your website or the landing page, it will be similar to living in a ghost town with no people. Nobody wants that and paid traffic is one of the quickest ways to acquire your customers. While running search ads, Google recommends a certain set of suggestions which helps you in increasing the traffic to your website. They’re as follows:

  • Adding call extensions – The utilisation of call extensions will help in increasing the traffic to the website by driving calls to your business.
  • Ad groups with keywords – An ad group without keyword is like an aeroplane without fuel. To enable your ad groups to run, add at least one keyword to each ad group.
  • Ad groups should have enough keywords – Adding additional, relevant keywords can help you reach potential customers who aren’t seeing your ads. Hence you should have enough keywords to have higher traffic to your website.
  • Ad groups with active ads – Your ad groups won’t be active until at least one of the ad copy is live. Hence, if you want your ad groups to run, then create at least one ad in your empty ad groups.
  • Showing ads on Google search partners – Even though Google has a vast inventory and reach in the world, targeting Google search partners will increase the number of people who can see your ads, thereby helping you in obtaining additional traffic to your website.
  • Using a recommended daily budget – When your budget gets limited, it will impact your ad delivery which in turn will result in losing out on reaching out to your potential audience. Hence using a recommended daily budget will help in gaining additional traffic to your website.

Increasing Click Through Rate (CTR):

Click Through Rate (commonly referred to as “CTR”) is a commonly used metric by digital advertisers to measure the success of an online advertising campaign. The higher the CTR, the more effective the marketing campaign will be in bringing traffic to a website. Google has listed out some set of recommendations for achieving higher CTR. They’re as follows:

  • Adding Callout extensions – The purpose of adding Callout extensions is to improve the CTR. It gives more information about your business in addition to the message conveyed in the ad.
  • Ad groups should have multiple ad variations – It’s a well-known fact that every individual has different preferences and likes. Hence, having multiple ad variations would help in connecting with your target audience well, thereby increasing your CTR.
  • Adding Sitelink extensions – Sitelink extensions are individual sections of the website through which you could direct your potential customers so that they can quickly find what they’re looking for.
  • Using first page bids for high-quality Keywords – There’s a saying that we can bury the dead body on the second page of Google’s search results. If you want to get quality traffic and high CTR, then you should use first page bids for at least high-quality and valuable keywords.

Increasing Conversion Rate (CVR):

Every digital marketer in the world can acknowledge that conversions are the lifeblood of any online marketing campaigns. The main goal of running a lead generation digital marketing campaign is to acquire customers for your business. Measuring the conversion rate is a crucial metric for all digital businesses. For increasing the average conversion rates, Google suggests to implement a particular set of recommendations which are as follows:

  • Using conversion tracking – Using the conversion tracking will aid you in keeping track of which clicks are turning into customers or leads thereby allowing you to optimise your account to target the best clicks.
  • Using an optimised ad rotation setting – Based on your goals, you should use appropriate settings for ad rotation. If you want to increase the number of conversions, then “Optimise for conversions” option to get the maximum out of it.
  • Using Enhanced CPC – Enabling Enhanced CPC raises your bid for clicks that are more likely to lead to a sale or conversion and lowers your bid for clicks that are less likely to lead to a sale or conversion.

Increasing Return on Investment (ROI):

ROI is typically the most important measurement for advertisers because it shows the real effect that AdWords has on your business. While it’s helpful to know the number of clicks and impressions you get, it’s even better to know how your ads are contributing to the success of your business.
